Welcome to the Nuclear Test Personnel Review (NTPR) Digital Library Catalog!

This Digital Library Catalog evolved from the consolidation of early document collections created by the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps NTPR programs. The separate service programs were gradually combined under the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to become the consolidated program existant today.

The library catalog is used to determine the whereabouts and activities of veterans during the atmospheric nuclear weapons test period (1945 through 1962), the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan occupation period (1945-1946), the Underground nuclear weapons testing period (1962 through 1992), and the Enewetak Atoll cleanup period (1977 through 1980) in order to verify participation or presence at a test site and to develop activity scenarios to determine radiation exposure potential.

The digitized catalog consists of 4 document collections:

  • NTPR Library - contains reference books, station lists, histories, Weapons Test Reports, radiation and dose reconstruction reports; deck logs, muster rolls, orders personnel diaries, and morning reports for Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Marine Corps, Army and Air Force units; and maps and charts of test sites among other items;
  • Ship Movement Cards - contains scanned fiche cards showing movements of naval vessels and units from 1940 through 1959;
  • Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Reading Room - contains scientific journals, reports and books related to nuclear testing and experiments; health physics studies and related nuclear radiation subject matter;
  • NTPR Program Records - contains memoranda, correspondence and other records documenting the origins, history and development of the NTPR program.

New material is continuously being acquired and incorporated into the NTPR Digital Library Catalog collections.
